Lunch Date at Papaya King

Papaya King

A couple of months ago I happened to be out running errands in our neighborhood just as Alex went on his lunch break so we decided to pay a visit to Papaya King for a lunch date.  I had been wanting to visit this infamous destination ever since we moved and was very excited when presented with the perfect opportunity to finally go.  Of course we didn’t end up getting a tropical drink (which I feel is essential to the Papaya King experience), but I fully intend on going back to try all of the different hot dogs variations that Papaya King has to offer!

A Sunday in Brooklyn

This past Sunday Alex and I headed to Brooklyn to make yet another trip to Ikea (this marked our third trip (first in Brooklyn!) within the past month – gotta love moving!).  Additionally, since we found ourselves in Brooklyn on a Sunday, we decided to visit the Brooklyn Flea in Williamsburg.  I absolutely adore flea markets and could not pass up the chance to visit such a noted one (you can find some of my other flea market related posts here, here, here and here)!  Although we didn’t find anything worth bringing home, we thoroughly enjoyed the food and the view – the flea is definitely worth visiting for the food alone!

Crostinis

One of the things I love about crostinis is that they are perfect for parties/entertaining, as well as for a simple, yet elegant meal – especially when accompanied with soup or a salad.  Also, they are very easy to prepare, and when it comes to potential toppings, there are countless possibilities!  Below I have included instructions on how to make a basic crostini, as well as provided a few different crostinis I have prepared in the past.

HOW TO MAKE A CROSTINI

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Slice a French baguette into 1/2-inch thick slices.
  3. Lightly brush the bread slices with olive oil.
  4. Arrange the bread on a baking sheet fitted with a rack and bake until lightly toasted (roughly 8 minutes or so).
  5. Remove from the oven and let cool before topping.

A Family Affair

Yesterday was not only Father’s Day, but my mother’s birthday as well, and so my boyfriend and I hosted a dinner to honor the special occasions.  The menu for the evening consisted of a mixed green salad – with goat cheese, sliced almonds and dried cranberries, tossed in a sweet balsamic vinaigrette dressing – as well as a trio of crostinis – crab & avocado, artichoke-parmesan, and avocado & grapefruit.  For dessert I made some vanilla bean ice cream and baked an apple & pear crisp.  Last night marked the first time this year that we ate dinner outside on our deck – it was a lovely evening and I look forward to many more nights of dining al fresco this summer!

Pea Pesto Crostini

I have wanted to make this recipe for a while now, and since it was on my list, I decided that it was time to finally get around to trying it.  This pea pesto crostini is absolutely delicious and is reminiscent of springtime with its vibrant color and freshness.  It is also incredibly easy and takes very little time to prepare, making it a fantastic recipe to add to one’s repertoire.  Furthermore, this pea pesto crostini is perfect for entertaining, especially if you are looking for something that you can whip up in an instant!
