Blue Skies & Palm Trees

Palm tree

{The first photo I took in Miami}

I arrived back from Miami late Saturday night and although I was only there for four nights, I managed to do quite a bit and now have an insane number of pictures to share as a result.  In addition to going to Art Basel Miami Beach, I had the chance to view three private collections (de la Cruz, Margulies, Rubell Family), as well as tour the Wynwood Arts District which included a stop at Enrique Martinez Celaya’s studio. Furthermore, I was able to go to DesignMiami/, The Bass Museum of Art, NADA, Pulse, and Scope.

It was definitely a lot, but I’m glad I had the chance to do it all and experience Miami during Art Basel.  Over the next week or so I will be sharing a ridiculous amount of pictures from all of the fairs and tours so I hope you enjoy art because there will be a ton of it! But for now I want to share with you the few non-art related pictures from my trip.

One

Yesterday marked the one year anniversary of world of wynne! On the one hand, it seems like it has been much longer, especially considering how much my life has changed within the past year.  However, at the same time, I can’t believe I have been blogging for a full year now – I had no idea I would be able to make it this long!

Within the past year, blogging has officially become one my favorite pastimes, and this little blog has become an important part of my life.  Up until now, I have never been able to successfully keep a journal.  My dad has always been a big advocate of keeping a journal and as a result, I’ve spent practically my entire lifetime trying to keep one and yet I’ve never been able to stick with it.

This blog, however, has become my journal – a way for me to catalogue and share memories and experiences.  Everything that I blog about,  even if it’s just a picture of some pretty flowers or a new scarf, is all part of my life and it brings me some sort of happiness or inspiration or contentment.  And now blogging itself is a part of my life. It is something that I find incredibly satisfying and I definitely feel a sense of accomplishment for being able to stick with it for a whole year.

Thank you for taking the time to visit world of wynne, and especially thank you to all of the loyal followers!  It has been a truly great year, and I hope the next one is even better!

In the Summertime

This is a little film I made of Gunnar and Boone enjoying an afternoon at Lobsterville Beach while in Martha’s Vineyard.

The song is “In the Summertime” by Mungo Jerry.

Sunsets

I love sunsets, but rarely get the chance to admire/photograph them; however, when I was in Martha’s Vineyard last week, I managed to enjoy and capture a few gorgeous ones!

A Guide to Martha’s Vineyard

WHERE TO STAY

I’ve stayed in Martha’s Vineyard several times before and my favorite place to stay has been Aquinnah (formally Gay Head), hands down.  It’s picturesque, peaceful, and serene, away from the bustling crowds and loads of traffic.  The only downside is that you have to drive quite a distance to get to the other side of the island in order to visit places like Vineyard Haven, Oak Bluffs, and Edgartown.

WHERE TO EAT

Among the Flowers Café in Edgartown (we had lunch there, but I hear the breakfast is great too), The Bite in Menemsha, The Black Dog Bakery and Café on State Road in Vineyard Haven.  Also I highly recommend the crab cake sandwich from Dreamcatcher, as well as the California rolls from Faith’s Seafood Shack & Sushi Bar, which are both in Aquinnah.

For a sweet treat – there are tons of places to get ice cream & frozen yogurt; however, by far the best place was Vineyard Scoops in Edgartown.  Also in Edgartown is Scoop Shack, which has ice cream & frozen yogurt, as well as bags, bins and barrels of old-fashioned candy including saltwater taffy!

WHERE TO SHOP

Edgartown is absolutely adorable and by far my favorite place in Martha’s Vineyard for shopping – with its streets lined with charming boutiques, it’s the perfect place to window shop.

I also particularly loved Alley’s General Store in West Tisbury, which is a fun, whimsical old-fashioned general store, packed to the brim with sundries.

Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs (specifically Circuit Ave) have tons of stores to shop as well!

WHAT TO DO

Go to the beach

My favorite beach might be Lobsterville – it was definitely the dogs’ favorite!  Also, Menemsha has a nice, small public beach that’s quite charming.

Visit festivals, flea and farmers markets

The Artisans Festivals located at Historic Grange Hall in West Tisbury all week from 10am-2pm

Featherstone Flea and Fine Arts Market on Tuesdays from 9:30am-2pm at Featherstone Center for the Arts in Oak Bluffs

Chilmark Flea Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9am-2pm at 142 North Road in the field across from the old schoolhouse

The West Tisbury Farmers Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9am-12pm at Grange Hall

Antique Show & Sale at Grange Hall on Fridays from 9am-3pm.

Oak Bluffs Open Market on Sundays from 10am-2pm at Washington Park in Oak Bluffs

Check the calendar for annual events

When we were visiting the Annual Book Sale at Oak Bluffs Library was taking place.

Tour the lighthouses

There are five lighthouses on the island – The West Chop, The East Chop, Edgartown, Gay Head, and Cape Poge

Admire the Aquinnah Cliffs

The spectacular view of these truly breathtaking Clay Cliffs is definitely worth a trip out to Aquinnah!

Visit the Oak Bluffs Campgrounds

A quaint neighborhood within Oak Bluffs consisting of over 300 colorful Carpenter Gothic Victorian cottages with wedding-cake trim, which were mainly built in the 1860s and 1870s.  You can a few pictures of the cottages here!

Ride the Flying Horses Carousel

Located in Oak Bluffs, the Flying Horses Carousel is the oldest operating platform carousel in America and was built in 1876!

Walk around Menemsha

Menemsha is a charming fishing village with a historic harbor, a public beach, as well as a handful of unique shops and a few seafood shacks & restaurants.

Martha’s Vineyard

My trip to Martha’s Vineyard was truly fantastic and was filled with lots of relaxing, reading, shopping and eating.  It was especially great getting to spend some quality time with my family, including the dogs, of course, who proved to be insanely entertaining as always.  We rented an amazing beach house in Aquinnah that overlooked the ocean and had a grassy path, which led right down to a private beach.  Throughout the week I will have several more entries devoted to this Martha’s Vineyard trip, but for now, here are a handful of pictures that I took while there!

Off to Martha’s Vineyard!

{Vintage Postcard of Gay Head Light in Martha’s Vineyard}

Tomorrow I am traveling to Martha’s Vineyard where I will be staying with my family for the week.  I haven’t been to Martha’s Vineyard since I was a kid so I’m really excited to return and revisit places on the island, and discover some new ones as well.   Have a great weekend – be back soon! xo

Playland

Last Thursday, Alex took me to Playland for my birthday.  Playland, an amusement park located in Rye, NY, began operation in 1928 and includes a boardwalk, ice-skating rinks, a swimming pool, a beach, as well as amusement park rides – including the infamous Dragon Coaster, a wooden roller coaster built in 1929.  I should also add that Playland was featured at the end of Big, as well as served as the backdrop for a scene in Fatal Attraction!

I hadn’t visited Playland since childhood, so naturally I grew very nostalgic during our trip – it was truly the perfect start to a fantastic birthday!
