Peanut Butter Bread

This peanut butter bread (which was first seen here) is another great Tate’s recipe and it is absolutely delicious.  It is particularly great with berry jam or ice cream, or is equally fantastic just on its own!

Best Dressed

For me, when it comes to the Oscars, the one thing that never disappoints is the fashion and this year was no exception!  I audibly gasped when I saw Jessica Chastain in her regal Alexander McQueen dress and was utterly bewitched by Penelope Cruz in her Armani Prive gown.  Angelina Jolie worked her striking angular gown with its sexy slit and Gwyneth Paltrow was incredibly statuesque, owning her Tom Ford number – complete with cape!  Octavia Spencer was an absolute vision in her gorgeous dress by Tadashi Shoji and Rooney Mara was a delightful surprise in her exquisite Givenchy dress.  Stacy Keibler was a golden goddess in Marchesa and Michelle Williams looked absolutely lovely in her coral gown by Louis Vuitton (I especially loved how she paired it with a pink clutch).  Furthermore, I was dazzled by Rose Byrne (in Vivienne Westwood) and Milla Jovovich (in Elie Saab), who both wore radiant dresses that sparkled down the carpet.  I would have to say that these ten women were my favorites of the night.  Who were your picks for best dressed?

The Oscars

Last year LIFE Magazine compiled several albums filled with pictures of noteworthy Oscar moments from the 1930s-1970s and I somehow managed to completely miss them and now they are no longer up online .  (They do, however, currently have one album containing their 16 best Oscar moments.)  So, in honor of the 84th Annual Academy Awards this Sunday, I decided to try and track down some of those LIFE photos that I missed of memorable Oscar moments.  Will you be watching on Sunday?

Pinterest

For years I have kept inspiration binders – binders filled with inspirational images that have been ripped out of magazines – as well as have tagged images online and bookmarked web pages.  However, this all changed when I discovered Pinterest.  Not only is Pinterest a place where you can organize and store images that you deem interesting onto inspirational boards, but it also functions as a catalogue, containing countless inspirational images to browse through.

A few weeks ago I finally accepted my invitation to Pinterest (thanks, Katrice!) and started pinning images to several inspiration boards.  I have thoroughly enjoyed Pinterest thus far (I’m actually a bit obsessed) and look at the boards that I have created here as an extension of my blog.  Even though I have only just begun, I wanted to share what I currently have with you, which you can find HERE.

The Ferry Building

The historic Ferry Building at the foot of Market Street in San Francisco houses The Ferry Building Marketplace – which consists of several shops, restaurants and cafés – as well as The Ferry Plaza Farmers Market – which takes place on Tuesdays, Thursday and Saturdays.  On Valentine’s Day we visited the Ferry Building, got our lunch to go at Delica and ate outside on the rear plaza overlooking the Bay.  Then later in the week we went back to enjoy a coffee at Blue Bottle Coffee Co. and grabbed dinner at Mijita.

Alcatraz

My boyfriend and I both really wanted to visit Alcatraz so we decided to take the first boat out at 9am to avoid the larger, midday crowds.  If you are ever in San Francisco and find yourself with a few extra hours to kill, I recommend that you take a trip over to The Rock – completely worth it if you ask me.

Hotel Vertigo

I am a huge Alfred Hitchcock fan and therefore, am absolutely in love with his complete filmography.  I read somewhere once that San Francisco was his favorite American city and I wouldn’t be surprised if that were true, considering several of his films are set in the San Francisco Bay Area (Shadow of a Doubt, Vertigo, The Birds).  The last time I visited San Francisco, I stayed in Nob Hill and thought that it was an ideal, centrally located area to stay in.  As a result when we were deciding on where to stay for this trip, we figured a hotel in Nob Hill would be best.  When I discovered Hotel Vertigo, a boutique hotel located in Nob Hill, I knew I had found the perfect place to stay.  Not only is the hotel décor inspired by Hitchcock’s film, but the hotel also was formerly Hotel Empire, the hotel where Judy stays in Vertigo, and where scenes from the film were shot.

San Francisco

I’m back! My boyfriend and I had an absolutely amazing time in San Francisco.  During the course of our stay we ate many delicious meals, explored neighborhoods and areas such as Chinatown and Japantown, toured Alcatraz and afterwards visited the Ferry Building, watched the sea lions at Fisherman’s Wharf, went to the Aquarium of the Bay and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, as well as traveled to Golden Gate Park and visited the Japanese Tea Garden, the de Young Museum, the California Academy of Sciences and The Conservatory of Flowers.  Furthermore, throughout our trip we stayed at Hotel Vertigo in Nob Hill, ate a lot of amazing food, and did quite a bit of shopping too. During the trip I took just over 1,000 pictures, and while I will spare you by not posting all of them, I will be sharing my favorite photos over the next week or two.  Consider this the first of many entries devoted to San Francisco.  Enjoy!

P.S. If visiting San Francisco, I highly recommend getting the CityPASS.  For $69 (per pass) we were able to visit Alcatraz, the Aquarium of the Bay, the SFMOMA, the de Young Museum, the California Academy of Sciences, as well as ride the cable cars and buses for free!
